Livestock Guardian Dogs
Livestock Guardians are dogs that were specifically bred to protect livestock from predators. They are independent and strong-willed, coming from generations of dogs that literally lived with the herd. Common breeds include the Great Pyrenees, Anatolian Shepherd, Komondor, Maremma and Tibetan Mastiff.

We employ two Great Pyrenees as goat guardians, Bo and Luke. They were up to the challenge at 6 months of age and after being on our farm for only one week when they alerted us to a pack of coyotes that was circling their isolation pen. Bo would charge the fence, barking fiercely, while Luke kept a close eye on his brother while guarding the terrified goats huddled in the corner. They have also run off loose dogs, deer and the occasional cyclist.
