Rush Creek Farms is located on the fertile prairie soils of east-central Illinois just outside of Champaign-Urbana. The 15 acre farm was established in 2005 and is owned and operated by Andrew and Jennifer Miller.
We started in the meat goat industry as breeders of registered New Zealand Kikos. We had a difficult time locating stock that could survive on forage-only while producing weanlings of 40-50 lbs. Goats and their offspring that passed our rigorous standards were kept, while thousands of dollars of papered stock went to slaughter.
Over the years, we have shifted away from producing registered New Zealand Kikos. Instead, we are focusing on a composite breeding program of Kiko, Savannah, and Boer goats that provide the mothering ability of the Kiko and the frame of the Savannah and Boer to produce an animal that is desired by commercial goat breeders and slaughter-goat buyers. These goats must still maintain our standards of being raised on pasture with minimal inputs.
We have sold our doe herd and have changed to commercial hair sheep!
Thank you to all who have purchased goats from us as well as to those farms where we purchased our first stock!
