Conservation

In 2005, we were accepted into the Environmental Qualities Incentives Program (EQIP). This federal program provides cost-share incentives on fencing, watering systems and pasture improvement provided you follow their standards. Please contact your local NRCS office for more information.
We have three acres of warm-season grasses along our creek to provide summer grazing for the goats. We use portable electric netting to graze this area (instead of permanent fencing), so for the majority of the year, it is undisturbed for wildlife use.

In 2005, we installed a one acre Shallow Water Area, also known as an ephemeral wetland. Since its creation, we have attracted numerous bird species, including Blue-Winged Teals, Soras, Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets and migrating shorebirds.

We have created a bluebird trail and are hoping to attract Purple Martins to a new martin house.
